Episode 72

Purple Hearts, Diversity Training, Teacher Turmoil, Ohio Opioids

Ravi and Rikki revel in vacay bliss before starting the show with their thoughts on the recent Netflix craze Purple Hearts, as well as how diversity training is manifesting itself in higher education and the workplace. The hosts then discuss the ruling in Ohio holding pharmacy chains responsible for the opioid epidemic, the emerging questions around a teacher shortage, as well as specific instances of teacher turmoil in Minnesota and Florida, before wrapping up with a couple of rapid fire updates on Mar-a-Lago and Deshaun Watson.

SHOW NOTES

Ravi offers a scathing review of the buzzy new Netflix rom-dram Purple Hearts, an underwhelming attempt to bring the country’s political poles together, while Rikki tries to be a bit more forgiving.

Ravi and Rikki discuss the efficacy of diversity training and how, even with the best of intentions, certain institutions’ overcorrections with respect to DEI are proving counterproductive.

The hosts discuss whether a federal judge in Ohio was right to hold Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart financially liable for opioid abuse in two counties.

Ravi and Rikki analyze whether there is in fact a national teacher shortage before zooming in on Minnesota’s race-based layoff scheme and Florida’s move to bring veterans into classrooms.

The hosts finish with some quick updates on the Mar-a-Lago affidavit and a strange compromise on Deshaun Watson’s NFL suspension.
